AI adoption heightens security risks and deepens cybersecurity talent gap

A SecurityWeek report outlines how artificial intelligence is currently employed across the cybersecurity landscape, examining five thematic areas—generative AI, agent AI, shadow AI, machine learning, and artificial general intelligence. It assesses AI’s trustworthiness, organizational use, potential misuse by insiders, exploitation by cyber‑adversaries, and future directions.

A separate Logicalis Annual CIO Survey of more than 1,000 chief information officers worldwide finds AI security now a top priority, with over a quarter of respondents ranking AI as a significant risk comparable to malware, ransomware and phishing. Seventy‑seven percent of organizations experienced a cyber‑security incident in the past year, and many report poorer breach detection, increased blind spots and slower incident response. Budgets for post‑breach remediation and ransom payments have risen, while only 37 % of CIOs claim full visibility of AI tools. The survey also highlights a severe skills shortage: 94 % of CIOs say they lack enough cybersecurity professionals, prompting greater emphasis on hiring, advanced training and managed‑service support.
