AI adoption introduces risks of synthetic compliance and data inaccuracies

The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence in business environments is creating new risks regarding compliance and data integrity. A phenomenon known as "synthetic compliance" is emerging, where organizations use AI and automation to produce perfect-looking governance documentation and dashboards without necessarily improving actual risk management. This creates a gap where an organization appears secure on paper while critical vulnerabilities remain unaddressed.

In addition to governance risks, the use of AI in professional settings like finance faces challenges from "hallucinations," where models confidently present false information, such as incorrect tax thresholds or fabricated contract clauses. There are also significant concerns regarding data privacy, as sensitive information provided to AI tools may travel further than intended if not managed with strict rules and professional business accounts.
