AI adoption trends vary between agricultural and consumer retail sectors

Artificial intelligence adoption is showing divergent trends across different retail sectors. In agriculture, retailers are lagging behind their farm and ranch customers in AI adoption, value, and trust. A survey by MorganMyers indicates that 34% of agricultural retailers find AI “not at all useful” and 43% describe the benefit as “slight.” Primary concerns include the accuracy of insights, customer confusion, and data privacy.

In the consumer grocery sector, AI shopping assistants are driving higher spending. Walmart reported that shoppers using its Sparky AI assistant spend 35% more per order. Similarly, Amazon has seen stronger conversion rates through AI-assisted shopping. While companies like Kroger are expanding AI capabilities via Google Cloud, widespread adoption remains low; data from Dunnhumby suggests only 15% of U.S. shoppers currently use AI tools for grocery shopping.
