AI adoption yields little productivity gain for most firms, study shows

A new NBER study of roughly 6,000 managers in Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom finds that almost 90 % of companies have not experienced measurable productivity improvements from artificial‑intelligence tools over the past three years, despite rising usage. The research links the shortfall to implementation gaps such as insufficient training, inadequate leadership practices and misaligned goal systems.

Additional analysis indicates that poor change management can increase employee burnout, while transformational leadership styles that emphasize support and purpose can mitigate stress and improve outcomes. The findings suggest that without addressing organizational and human‑factor issues, AI is unlikely to deliver the expected efficiency gains.
