AI advancements featured at CIFTIS including China Telecom digital employees and Lingji OS

At the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), major technological advancements in artificial intelligence and agent-based systems were showcased.

China Telecom presented its digital employee platform, designed to automate repetitive tasks such as industry insight, event planning, and network maintenance. The company aims to develop over 300 specialized digital employees for various sectors. Their AI applications include industrial energy management, which uses predictive modeling to optimize equipment operation and reduce waste, and emergency communication tools capable of maintaining high-definition video transmission even in low-bandwidth environments.

Additionally, the Tongminghu Information Technology Innovation Center introduced Lingji OS, China's first open-source operating system specifically designed for AI agents. Xie Tao, Director of the Tongminghu Center and a professor at Peking University, explained that while large language models act as the “brain,” Lingji OS provides the necessary “limbs and nerves” to allow agents to operate software, schedule data, and coordinate across different applications. The OS aims to solve industry fragmentation by providing a standardized, open-source foundation for secure and scalable agent deployment.
