AI advances animal health and communication research in Brazil

A new generation of artificial‑intelligence applications is being deployed on Brazilian farms, allowing a smartphone to analyze images of cattle and identify early signs of disease such as lameness, respiratory distress or reduced feed intake. The technology can run the analysis offline, making it usable on properties with limited internet connectivity and promising faster treatment, lower losses and more efficient herd management.

At the same time, researchers are using similar AI models to study animal vocalisations. Projects such as the Cetacean Translation Initiative (CETI) and the Earth Species Project apply language‑model techniques to millions of sounds from whales, birds, dolphins and other species to uncover recurring patterns and possible structure, without aiming to create a full “translation” system yet. Both efforts illustrate how AI is expanding scientific insight into animal health and communication.
