AI agent startups Cognition and Factory secure massive funding

AI startups specializing in autonomous software engineering agents are securing massive capital injections. Cognition, the creator of the Devin AI agent, has raised over $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation. Led by investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Accel, the company reported a significant increase in annual run rate, growing from $492 million to approximately $900 million since its previous funding round in May. Cognition's technology is currently utilized by major firms such as Nvidia, GE Aerospace, and Mercedes-Benz to automate complex engineering workflows.

Similarly, San Francisco-based startup Factory has raised $200 million, bringing its valuation to $5 billion. This represents a rapid increase from its $1.5 billion valuation just five months prior. Factory develops “Droids,” which are autonomous agents designed to handle end-to-end software engineering tasks including incident response, code refactoring, and testing. The company's client list includes Adobe, Morgan Stanley, and Ernst & Young, and it is planning international expansion.
