AI agents drive marketplace growth and developer burnout

The rapid integration of AI agents into software development and enterprise marketplaces is driving significant shifts in both workflow and market demand. On the AWS Marketplace, the popularity of AI agents has surged, moving from the 64th most searched keyword a year ago to third place today. The number of agent offerings on the platform has grown from approximately 1,000 to over 4,000 within a year, contributing to a total of nearly 40,000 applications.

In the development sector, AI tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code are being used to generate boilerplate, refactor modules, and troubleshoot errors. However, this shift is introducing new psychological challenges for programmers. Some developers report that agentic coding can be addictive, creating a feedback loop of dopamine hits when tools succeed and adrenaline rushes when they fail. This phenomenon has been linked to increased workaholism and a new form of burnout, as the passive nature of watching an agent work can make it difficult for developers to step away from their tasks.

Economically, the global agentic procurement software market is seeing substantial growth. Valued at $1.2 billion in 2025, it is projected to reach nearly $9 billion by 2034. These autonomous systems are increasingly capable of handling multi-step procurement tasks, such as qualifying vendors and conducting negotiations, without requiring constant human initiation.
