AI agents drive new regulatory and operational challenges

The rise of agentic AI is creating significant regulatory and operational challenges, particularly in scientific research and development. The launch of Anthropic’s Claude Science workbench has accelerated the transition of AI agents from pilot phases to active implementation in R&D processes. This shift has highlighted a critical accountability gap regarding who is responsible for signing off on AI-generated analysis.

Regulatory bodies are already responding to these developments. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning letter demanding human signatures on AI-generated work, while the European Union is drafting an annex to define the boundaries of AI involvement in GMP-critical tasks.

In the financial sector, AI adoption is also progressing, though in different capacities. In India, private credit funds are increasingly utilizing AI for deal sourcing, data analysis, and credit assessment. While many use the technology moderately, a segment of the market is integrating AI deeply into core investment and origination processes.
