AI agents face scaling challenges with rate limiting in production

Developers deploying AI agents at production scale are facing significant challenges with rate limiting and resource consumption. While AI agents can provide valuable insights when connected to company data, scaling these solutions often leads to hitting service quotas and rapidly exhausting computational resources.

Traditional rate-limiting methods present specific difficulties in distributed environments. Local process-based limiters, such as the Rust crate 'governor', fail to account for horizontal scaling in Kubernetes, where multiple pods can collectively exceed API limits. Conversely, using a shared counter in Redis introduces additional network latency and creates a single point of failure that can impact overall service performance.
