AI agents shift software engineering focus toward code review

The landscape of software engineering is shifting as AI coding assistants and agents move from writing code to requiring intensive human supervision. While AI can generate large volumes of syntactically correct code rapidly, the developer's role is transitioning from active writing to reviewing, verifying, and maintaining generated output to ensure system reliability and safety.

Some practitioners have expressed skepticism regarding the current state of AI agent software, citing high friction in the ecosystem and a lack of rigorous usability testing. Concerns include products that function well in ideal scenarios but fail during practical implementation, such as authentication issues or inefficient resource consumption.

In this new paradigm, the Go programming language is being highlighted as a potentially ideal tool for AI-assisted engineering. Originally designed by Google engineers for large-scale software engineering rather than just simple programming, Go’s focus on simplicity and team-driven development aligns with the modern need to manage and review code generated by AI teammates.
