AI algorithm improves detection of sudden cardiac death risk
Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, have developed an artificial intelligence algorithm designed to improve the detection of sudden cardiac death risk. Published in the journal ‘Nature’, the study utilized an AI system trained on over 440,000 electrocardiograms from Sweden, along with death certificate data, to identify hidden electrical patterns in the heart that were previously undetectable by specialists.
The model was validated using additional records from the United States and Taiwan, demonstrating higher precision in identifying high-risk individuals compared to standard clinical methods. This advancement aims to facilitate early diagnosis and prevent thousands of deaths annually.
In a related development within the field, Lima will host the XV International Congress of Cardiology from August 20 to 22. Organized by Grupo San Pablo, the event will bring together specialists from various countries, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, and several Latin American nations, to discuss advancements such as AI application, robotic surgery, and minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures.
