AI and acoustic sensors developed to monitor dam risks

Researchers from Brazil and Germany have developed an innovative system using artificial intelligence and acoustic sensors to monitor dam risks and urban noise pollution. Presented at UniFacens in Sorocaba, the technology utilizes acoustic data to identify and differentiate various sounds, ranging from industrial noise to potential explosions.

One of the most significant applications discussed is the use of acoustic sensors for civil defense and dam monitoring. The system is being analyzed for its ability to assist in monitoring heavy rainfall and potential landslides, potentially enhancing response capabilities during natural disasters. Sandra Cristina Brix of the Fraunhofer IDMT emphasized the importance of adapting this technology to the Brazilian context to improve urban noise monitoring and disaster prevention.
