AI and agricultural innovation aim to combat global hunger
Artificial intelligence and new technologies are transforming agriculture by improving production, risk management, and decision-making. Innovations such as precision agriculture using sensors, satellites, and drones, as well as early warning systems for crisis anticipation, offer significant potential to address global food insecurity.
Despite these advancements, a significant gap remains. While technologies like biotechnology and robotics are evolving, hundreds of millions of people lack access to even basic innovations. Currently, over 645 million people face hunger, and one in four suffers from food insecurity. Experts note that hunger is not merely a production issue but is driven by poverty, inequality, conflict, and lack of access to food.
The challenge lies in scaling these proven solutions so they are affordable, locally adapted, and capable of attracting investment. The goal is to transform agrifood systems through improved production, nutrition, environmental management, and enhanced livelihoods to ensure no one is left behind.
