AI and AR usage reaches 81% among Australian and New Zealand shoppers
A new report by Stripe and Thoughtworks reveals that 81 per cent of shoppers in Australia and New Zealand have utilized artificial intelligence (AI) or augmented reality (AR) to assist with online shopping decisions.
AI is increasingly integrated into the fashion industry, influencing areas such as trend forecasting, stock management, virtual try-ons, and fit recommendations. The rise of agentic commerce is a notable trend, with spending in this sector projected to increase from $5 billion to $47 billion by 2030.
Local brands like Oroton have already implemented AR technology, such as virtual try-on windows in Sydney and Brisbane. Industry experts note that while most consumers currently use AI for shopping advice rather than direct purchasing, businesses are focusing on building the necessary infrastructure and trust to keep pace with the technology.
