AI and biotechnology drive advancements in digital therapeutics and neurological diagnostics
The life sciences sector is undergoing significant technological shifts driven by artificial intelligence and advanced diagnostics. In Italy, the University of Teramo will host an annual meeting in September 2026 focused on the intersection of AI and cellular and molecular biotechnology, aiming to bridge academic research with regional industrial production.
Research from the Life Science Innovation Observatory at Politecnico di Milano highlights a growing global market for digital therapeutics, with 121 active therapies currently in use. While these technologies are not yet present in Italy, studies show that 46% of doctors are willing to prescribe them and 63% of patients are willing to use them. Additionally, 78% of surveyed pharmaceutical companies view AI as a priority for improving healthcare professional engagement, and 48% use it to support drug discovery and clinical trials.
In Brazil, Fujirebio has received authorization from ANVISA to market the Lumipulse G NfL Blood and Lumipulse G pTau 217 Plasma tests. These automated blood-based tests allow for less invasive and more rapid screening of neurological biomarkers, assisting medical professionals in more precise clinical decision-making.
