AI and compute power emerge as key drivers in financial trading
The financial sector is seeing increased integration of artificial intelligence and specialized trading for computing resources. A report from MEXC indicates that 68.9% of surveyed crypto traders now use AI, primarily for pre-trade research. The most common applications include condensing market-moving news (54%), analyzing market trends (48.6%), and identifying opportunities (38%). Traders show a preference for AI as an analytical tool rather than an autonomous agent, with many favoring integrated exchange features over general-purpose models.
Simultaneously, proprietary trading firms Jump Trading and DRW are moving into the market for computing power contracts. Jump Trading has established a dedicated compute trading desk by hiring the founding team of the startup Itô, focusing on mid-market bilateral contracts for compute and inference. DRW is developing broader infrastructure, including the Compute Exchange marketplace and Silicon Data for pricing benchmarks. DRW has also secured a GPU-as-a-Service agreement for Nvidia Blackwell B300 clusters. The market is expected to evolve from private bilateral deals toward exchange-traded futures, with CME Group planning contracts based on GPU rental indices.
