AI and custom development are reshaping Learning Management Systems

Artificial intelligence is significantly reshaping the landscape of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Learning Experience Platforms (LXP). While traditional LMS platforms focus on administration and compliance tracking, and LXPs emphasize content discovery, AI is being integrated into both to enhance functionality.

A survey of 421 learning and development professionals by Synthesia indicates that 87% of respondents are already utilizing AI. The primary impact is currently seen in production efficiency; 84% of those surveyed cited faster production as a major benefit. Common applications include voice generation, content drafting, video creation, and translation, which reduce manual workloads for learning designers.

As the technology evolves, the industry is shifting toward custom development. Modern LMS requirements now include advanced features such as AI-driven personalization, adaptive learning, automated assessments, and sophisticated learner analytics to move beyond static course delivery.
