AI and digital innovation transform medical research and reproductive medicine
Artificial intelligence and digital innovation are transforming various sectors of medical science and pharmaceutical development in Greece.
In reproductive medicine, advancements in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) include the use of Time Lapse systems. These next-generation embryo scopes allow for continuous, 24-hour monitoring of embryo development without disturbing stable culture conditions. Additionally, AI algorithms are being integrated to analyze images of oocytes and embryos, assisting clinicians in assessing morphological and developmental characteristics to support decision-making.
In the pharmaceutical sector, the 21st Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Congress in Thessaloniki is highlighting how AI impacts drug discovery, research, and development. AI can analyze massive datasets and evaluate molecular structures to identify candidate substances, potentially significantly reducing the traditional ten-year drug development timeline. Furthermore, AI tools are being explored for pharmacovigilance to monitor drug safety and assess causal links between medications and adverse effects. Experts emphasize that while these technologies automate and accelerate processes, human oversight and clinical judgment remain essential.
