AI and foveated rendering mods boost PC game performance

The PC gaming community is utilizing artificial intelligence and specialized rendering techniques to significantly improve game performance through new modifications.

A new mod for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, developed by user LTSharpe with the assistance of the Claude AI, has addressed optimization issues. Tests showed a 41% increase in average frame rates, rising from 72 to 102 FPS in the Imperial City, without reducing graphical settings. The mod aims to reduce CPU bottlenecks and stuttering that persisted even on high-end hardware.

In a separate development, modders are applying foveated rendering techniques to improve DLSS 5 performance. A project titled Foveated DLSS5, created by Maximedgoulet, uses a method common in virtual reality to concentrate AI processing on the center of the screen. In tests on The Witcher 3 using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, frame rates increased from approximately 49 to 80 FPS, a gain of 63%. This technique is particularly beneficial for high-resolution ultrawide monitors.
