AI and robotics advance German healthcare and vascular medicine

Artificial intelligence and robotics are increasingly being utilized to address fragmentation and complexity within the German healthcare sector. While digitalization efforts have expanded digital contact points, the lack of interconnected systems often forces patients to repeat information across different platforms, such as email, telephone, and electronic patient records.

In the field of vascular medicine, AI is being applied to improve clinical decision-making and diagnostic precision. Experts from the German Society for Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine (DGG) highlighted how AI systems can analyze CT and MRI images to detect aortic aneurysms, segment vessels, and measure calcifications or thrombi. These capabilities assist doctors in determining the necessity of surgical interventions for conditions like peripheral arterial disease and carotid stenosis, spanning the entire care process from diagnosis to aftercare.
