AI and robotics enter pharmaceutical quality control laboratories

Pharmaceutical quality control (QC) laboratories are increasingly transitioning toward environments driven by artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, and cloud computing, according to a Deloitte report titled ‘Pharma’s QC lab of the future’.

Industry trends indicate a growing emphasis on laboratory digitalization and the management of massive amounts of quality data. Laboratories are facing increased pressure to improve efficiency, support new product launches, and reduce batch release times.

Marcin Turzyński, Quality Director at Polpharma Group, noted that the primary challenge for 2027 will be the ability to integrate people, data, and AI to make faster yet reliable quality decisions. He emphasized that the future of quality control depends not only on technology but on skilled professionals capable of analyzing data and utilizing new tools.

According to the Deloitte report, at least 70% of surveyed directors from companies of various revenue sizes plan to maintain or increase investments in laboratory modernization over the next two to three years.
