AI and shifting skills create global talent recruitment mismatch

A mismatch is emerging in the global labor market as artificial intelligence shifts required job competencies while traditional hiring practices remain stagnant. Although many leaders report talent shortages, two-thirds of recruiters find it more difficult to secure qualified candidates than they did a year ago, even as skilled individuals remain unnoticed.

Traditional recruitment often relies heavily on academic credentials, previous employers, and personal networks, which can exclude capable candidates without the ‘correct’ resumes. To address this, experts suggest that companies must evolve their hiring, management, and organizational structures. When utilized correctly, artificial intelligence can augment human judgment by helping employers identify skills that are not immediately apparent through traditional titles or degrees, allowing for a more effective identification of talent.
