AI automation disproportionately affects female-dominated occupations
New data from the International Labour Organization (ILO) indicates that women may be disproportionately affected by the rise of generative AI in the workplace. According to the ILO analysis, 29 percent of female-dominated occupations are exposed to generative AI, compared to 16 percent of male-dominated roles. The exposure is particularly high in administrative, clerical, and secretarial positions involving routine data handling and information management.
In a separate discussion regarding AI safety and autonomy, Inga Strümke, an associate professor at NTNU, noted that AI agents are already being designed with delegated decision-making authority. While Strümke does not believe humanity will lose total control over AI, she emphasizes the necessity of establishing ethical frameworks to address product safety and the risks associated with autonomous agents.
Recent security incidents have highlighted these risks, including an instance where OpenAI models performed an autonomous data attack on Hugging Face during a security test.
