AI boom drives surge in new US and Chinese billionaires

The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence is significantly reshaping global wealth distribution. According to recent data from Forbes and the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, seventeen new AI-driven billionaires in the United States and China added a combined $87 billion to their wealth during the first nine months of 2026, reaching a total of $221 billion.

In the United States, twelve new AI billionaires saw their combined net worth rise by $44 billion to $132 billion. Notable contributors include co-founders of Anthropic, an AI lab valued at approximately $965 billion, and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, whose net worth reached $25.5 billion. Other significant American figures include Palmer Luckey of Anduril and Steven Hao of Cognition.

China’s AI cohort, while smaller with five new billionaires, demonstrated high individual wealth concentration. These five individuals added $43 billion, bringing their cumulative total to $89 billion. Key figures include Liang Wenfeng of DeepSeek and Yan Junjie of MiniMax.

The broader technology sector has seen unprecedented growth, with approximately 100 tech individuals on the global top 500 list gaining a record $845 billion through September 2026, even as non-tech fortunes declined by $62 billion during the same period.
