AI coding agents see rapid growth as Cognition AI hits $1B revenue run rate
The AI-driven software development sector is seeing rapid commercial expansion, highlighted by significant milestones from Cognition AI and ByteAsk.
Cognition AI, the creator of the autonomous coding agent Devin, reported crossing a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate in late September 2026. This follows a period of intense growth where the company’s run rate rose from approximately $492 million in May to over $1 billion within four months. Cognition AI recently raised over $2 billion in funding, bringing its valuation to $48 billion. Its client base includes major entities such as Nvidia, Citigroup, Mercedes-Benz, and various US government agencies.
In a separate development, ByteAsk, a startup founded by IIT Delhi graduates Anirudha Kulkarni and Pratyush Saini, has secured $1 million in pre-seed funding. Selected for the Y Combinator Fall 2026 batch, ByteAsk is developing an AI coding agent specifically tailored for C and C++ programming. The company intends to use the capital to expand teams in San Francisco and Bengaluru, invest in GPU computing, and develop enterprise-grade security infrastructure.
