AI transforms European job market and hiring practices
In Austria, a recent karriere.at survey of 1,005 users found that 50 % of job seekers now use generative AI tools such as ChatGPT for application documents, up from 27 % two years earlier. Among AI users, 87 % employ it for cover letters and 56 % for résumés.
In Germany, Indeed recorded 288 new AI‑focused job titles in the first quarter of 2026, representing 4.2 % of all tracked occupations. More than half of these roles are outside traditional technical fields, showing AI’s spread into administration, sales and HR. The United States leads globally with 822 AI‑related titles.
In Switzerland, AI‑skill job ads rose by 9,000 to reach 25,000 positions – 1.8 % of all vacancies – and more than CHF 80 billion in wages are now linked to AI‑enabled work, according to the Swiss Employees’ Association. A Google ATLAS study of 14.65 million interactions across 150 countries concluded that AI is primarily used as a productivity aid rather than a wholesale replacement.
