AI compute firms Anthropic and SpaceX expand data center capacity

Anthropic has signed a five‑year, $10 billion contract with cloud‑infrastructure startup Volta Infra Holdings to operate a new 133 MW data centre in Norway. The facility will be equipped with Nvidia’s next‑generation Vera Rubin GPUs and is part of Anthropic’s effort to meet soaring demand for its artificial‑intelligence services after a recent $65 billion financing round.

SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, announced a hiring drive for engineers, electricians, plumbers and other skilled tradespeople to build and run the most powerful AI super‑computer clusters both on Earth and off‑planet. Applicants must submit a résumé plus three bullet‑point proofs of exceptional ability to datacenters@spacex.com. The company already operates more than 3,000 data‑center sites in the United States, with another 1,500 under development, underscoring the rapid expansion of AI compute infrastructure.

Both moves illustrate the accelerating race among leading AI firms to secure massive compute resources, a trend that could shape technology development and market dynamics worldwide.
