AI Data Center Infrastructure Expands in South Korea, Indonesia, and India

Global investment in AI data center infrastructure is accelerating, with significant developments in South Korea, Indonesia, and India.

In South Korea, a report by NEXT group estimates that if all planned AI data centers are realized and demand is met, capacity could reach 20GW by 2035. However, a scenario based only on confirmed customer contracts suggests a much lower demand of 2.5GW for the same period. The South Korean government has also announced a 21.3 trillion won budget for 2027 to support AI mega-projects, including semiconductors, physical AI, and data center infrastructure.

In Indonesia, LG CNS has completed the construction of a 30MW hyperscale AI data center in Jakarta. This project, a joint venture between Sinarmas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management, marks the first time a South Korean company has built an AI data center for an overseas client. The facility utilizes a hybrid cooling system and is expected to expand to a total capacity of 400MW in future phases.

In India, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has commenced construction of a 52MW data center in Chennai. Developed by Vyoma.AI, the facility is designed to support high-density AI workloads using direct-to-chip liquid cooling technology. This project is part of L&T’s broader plan to establish an AI Factory campus in the region.
