Executives in Africa are moving from curiosity about generative AI to demanding production‑grade solutions that can reduce fraud, improve customer operations, and accelerate software delivery. Paul Spagnoletti, chief revenue officer of Synthesis, notes that while prototypes can be built in hours, real‑world deployments must handle sensitive data, regulatory compliance, integration with core platforms and continuous performance monitoring, especially in sectors such as banking, insurance, healthcare and telecommunications.

At the same time, software engineers warn that AI‑generated code often skips the hardest part of building reliable services. Rapidly created apps may suffer race conditions, scalability bottlenecks, insecure API keys, and other operational failures that only surface under real‑world load. The “first 90 %” of development is now instant, but the “second 90 %” – testing, security, idempotency and resilience – remains unchanged, requiring seasoned engineering judgment.
