AI development targets military decision-making and massive tech spending
Researchers at FOI in Kista are developing an AI-supported decision system designed to assist the military with tactical decisions during warfare. While demonstrations show the AI can map out multiple attack routes, military experts and officers note that the technology is still far from being combat-ready and may not yet surpass human decision-making capabilities.
Separately, an analysis by the Wall Street Journal suggests that the artificial intelligence expenditures of major American technology companies, including Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta, may be significantly higher than previously reported. The report indicates that financial commitments related to AI, such as data center costs, could be approximately $3 trillion higher than what is currently reflected on corporate balance sheets.
