AI-driven cyber threats prompt regulatory warnings and industry events worldwide

OpenText, Prianto and QBS Software Group held a series of regional workshops in Zagreb, Belgrade, Bucharest and Budapest, emphasizing the need for integrated platform approaches to combine cybersecurity and enterprise AI across sectors such as banking, energy and defense.

Cybersecurity experts warned that rapid AI adoption in the Gulf is lowering barriers for attackers, making businesses the weakest link in national defences. They highlighted the need for staff training, governance and updated threat models to counter AI‑enabled social engineering and identity‑based fraud.

Cyprus’s securities regulator CySEC issued a circular to financial firms, citing frontier AI models that can accelerate vulnerability discovery and urging compliance with the EU’s Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) through stronger ICT risk management, patching, identity controls and third‑party supply‑chain oversight.

Microsoft described how AI now speeds up identity‑focused attacks and called for unified identity‑security solutions, showcasing new Entra ID Protection features such as a real‑time risk score that aggregates signals across accounts, workloads and applications.
