AI-driven fraud and consumer trust reshape e‑commerce security worldwide

New research from Infobip shows AI‑powered fraud incidents rose 77% in the past year while businesses increased AI‑based detection by 71%, with pattern‑based tools growing 105%. The 2026 Fraud & Security Report highlights rising OTP‑based attacks in APAC markets such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and India, prompting tighter regulator authentication rules.

A separate Adyen survey of online retailers finds that, although 100% are investing in AI tools, 64% of shoppers feel uncomfortable letting AI complete a purchase and only 26% are willing to do so. Retailers say security checks at checkout are now a critical trust factor, with 91% prioritising them over speed.
