Asia-Pacific market caps reshaped by AI and semiconductor demand

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) corporate market capitalization landscape underwent a significant reshuffle in the third quarter of 2026, driven largely by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. According to data from GlobalData, the total market capitalization of the 50 largest APAC companies reached $13.74 trillion, a 49.5% increase year-over-year.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) maintained its position as the region's leader, with a market capitalization of $2.02 trillion. The surge in semiconductor and memory sectors was particularly pronounced. In South Korea, Samsung Electronics saw its valuation rise by 225.6% to $1.27 trillion, while SK Hynix experienced a 432.8% increase, reaching $956.3 billion, fueled by high demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM).

A major contributor to the quarterly gains was ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), which accounted for $555 billion of the $620 billion total increase following its July listing in Shanghai. Conversely, several former technology leaders, including Alibaba, Tencent, and Contemporary Amperex Technology, saw their market positions decline compared to the previous year.
