AI drives surge in app development and boosts Adobe revenue

The artificial intelligence landscape is driving a significant transformation in the software and application economy. AI-powered coding tools are enabling a surge in mobile application production. According to Sensor Tower data, the Apple App Store saw 235,800 new applications in the first quarter of 2026, an 84% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is attributed to tools like Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex, which allow users to create apps using natural language, a trend often referred to as ‘vibe coding.’ However, Apple has reportedly intervened against certain platforms, such as Replit and Vibecode, to ensure compliance with App Store security and privacy standards.

In the enterprise sector, Adobe reported strong third-quarter fiscal 2026 results, driven by the integration of AI into its creative suite. The company’s revenue rose 13% year-over-year to $6.76 billion, exceeding analyst expectations. Notably, Adobe’s annual recurring revenue (ARR) from AI-focused products grew by more than 150%. Despite these gains, Adobe provided a fourth-quarter revenue forecast that fell slightly below some analyst estimates. The company is also undergoing a leadership transition, with CEO Shantanu Narayen set to hand over the CEO role to Anil Chakravarthy on December 1.
