A viral AI face-swapping trend is circulating on social media, placing various figures into the 2022 COLORS Show performance of “Hotel Lobby” by Quavo and Takeoff. The trend uses AI video generators to seamlessly sync the likenesses, lip movements, and gestures of celebrities, politicians, and even animals into the original music video.

Music mogul Russell Simmons recently participated in the trend by using an AI-generated clip featuring himself and his ex-wife, Kimora Lee Simmons. Simmons expressed support for Kimora’s new documentary, “Kimora Lee: On Her Own,” which premiered on Lifetime. In the documentary, Kimora Lee recounts her history with Simmons and alleges he was abusive during their relationship. Simmons, who has denied various allegations of sexual assault, stated he remembers her fondly and wished her success.

The trend, which gained significant momentum after Quavo reposted the performance on X, has raised discussions regarding the use of personal likenesses and copyrighted intellectual property without permission.
