AI forum addresses banking transformation in UEMOA

A sub-regional forum was held in Dakar to discuss the role of artificial intelligence in driving financial inclusion and banking transformation within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

Organized by the Federation of Professional Associations of Banks and Financial Institutions of UEMOA (FAPBEF-UEMOA) and the Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions of Senegal (APBEF Senegal), the event brought together monetary authorities, regulators, and banking executives. Aliou Ndiaye, Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning, emphasized that AI could improve risk assessment, credit granting, fraud prevention, and customer relations. He noted the importance of ensuring that technological deployment remains responsible and inclusive to benefit the widest possible population.
