AI-generated deepnude operation uses paid ads to target users
A study by NetLab, a research laboratory at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), has uncovered a structured criminal operation involving the monetization of AI-generated deepnudes. The investigation, led by researcher Marie Santini, identified at least 198 paid advertisements circulating on Meta platforms that use the image of Brazilian actress Paolla Oliveira to lure users toward clandestine channels on Telegram.
These advertisements function as a sales funnel, directing victims and buyers to Telegram, where sexually explicit deepfakes are distributed and illegal products are sold. Legal experts note that this goes beyond simple moderation failures, as the platforms are actively approving and profiting from these paid advertisements. This development follows recent legal shifts in Brazil regarding platform responsibility for illicit content distributed through paid advertising.
