AI-generated fake doctors spread medical misinformation online

A widespread disinformation campaign is using AI-generated doctor avatars to spread medical misinformation on YouTube. An investigation by the Spanish fact-checking portal Maldita.es revealed over 1,000 YouTube accounts featuring AI-generated medical professionals spreading falsehoods in more than 30 languages. In Poland, at least 20 of these channels have been identified.

The fake doctors promote medically unsound advice, such as suggesting that herbs can treat cancer, claiming eggs can cure diabetes, or asserting that sunscreen causes cancer. They also discourage viewers with high blood pressure from seeking professional medical help. These channels often use common surnames like
