AI-generated fake passports of Zelenskyy and wife debunked
Images circulating on social media claiming to show Israeli passports belonging to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife, Olena Zelenska, have been identified as AI-generated fakes.
Analysis of the images reveals several technical inconsistencies typical of artificial intelligence. The documents contain nonsensical text, such as “passpor neb” and “rassort brtac,” and include errors like a place of birth listed as “Moscow, USSR,” despite the passports supposedly being issued in 2023. Additionally, one document shows an expiration date identical to its issuance date.
Google’s SynthID digital watermarking tool confirmed that the images were created or modified using Google’s AI tools. The disinformation campaign attempted to suggest the couple held secret Israeli citizenship, but the synthetic nature of the documents has been verified through linguistic errors and digital forensics.
