AI-generated resumes drive shift toward networking and live testing in hiring

The widespread use of artificial intelligence to create and refine resumes is fundamentally changing the recruitment landscape. As AI tools allow candidates to submit flawless applications, employers are facing a surge of highly polished but increasingly similar submissions.

In response, companies are shifting their evaluation methods. To distinguish genuine talent from AI-generated content, recruiters are placing greater emphasis on live testing, professional networking, and personal recommendations. Zoe McLoughlin of the London Business School noted that networking has become “absolutely decisive,” suggesting that having a known contact within a company is now a critical advantage.

Data from the London-based startup AmplifyME indicates that approximately 84 percent of applicants for entry-level positions in the financial sector use AI tools to prepare applications or interview responses. While these tools help candidates tailor their experiences to job descriptions, they also carry the risk of rejection if employers detect the use of automation.
