AI governance and security controls urged amid rapid technology adoption

Global organizations are calling for strengthened governance and security controls to manage the risks associated with rapid artificial intelligence adoption.

Erick Prusch, CEO of ISACA, emphasized that while AI accelerates digital transformation, uncontrolled use could expose populations and organizations to significant risks. To address this, ISACA has introduced new advanced credentials in audit, cybersecurity, and risk management to help professionals apply AI responsibly. Prusch noted that countries like Nigeria have significant opportunities to leverage AI through their youthful populations.

In the United Kingdom, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has urged organizations to implement stronger security controls for agentic AI systems. Experts note that agentic AI, which can make decisions and take actions autonomously, requires specific guardrails such as sandboxing, least privilege access, and human approval gates to prevent security failures and manage ‘shadow AI’ within enterprise environments.
