AI hiring interviews raise usability concerns and push candidate preparation

Artificial‑intelligence tools are increasingly used to conduct job interviews, generate resumes and assess candidate performance. Candidates often encounter AI avatars or voice‑bot systems without prior notice, leading to confusion, anxiety and lower interview scores. Career coaches advise job seekers to verify whether an interview will be AI‑driven and to prepare concise, metric‑focused answers in a Context‑Process‑Result format. Recruiters note that AI interviewers can analyze speech cues, but final hiring decisions still rely on human assessment.

A separate case at HR‑tech firm Ambition Hire revealed design flaws in its AI voice‑bot assessment, Verbly, causing candidates—especially blue‑collar workers with limited tech experience—to abandon the interview at entry, mid‑session, or exit. The UI/UX team redesigned the interface, improving visual contrast, explicit call‑to‑action prompts and clear progress indicators, which reduced dropout rates and eased candidate anxiety.
