AI impacts cognitive skills and Hollywood production

Experts are highlighting the dual-edged nature of artificial intelligence as it impacts cognitive skills and the entertainment industry. David Martin, global lead of people and organization at Boston Consulting Group, warned of an “existential risk of people deskilling themselves” through over-reliance on AI. A BCG study of global C-suite leaders found that 50% of executives see critical skills, such as problem framing, judgment, and creative thinking, eroding within their organizations. Martin noted that relying too heavily on AI summaries can prevent employees from engaging with deeper details and follow-up questions.

In the entertainment sector, AI is increasingly being used to create content, posing both opportunities and threats to Hollywood. While some AI-generated content is criticized as “slop,” the quality gap between human-made and AI-generated media is narrowing. DreamWorks cofounder Jeffrey Katzenberg suggested that Hollywood should embrace the technology, noting that as costs and barriers decrease, studios may take more risks and explore entirely new forms of storytelling, similar to previous shifts like the introduction of color or computer animation.
