AI impacts Finnish business security and payroll automation

Artificial intelligence is significantly altering the business landscape in Finland, presenting both heightened security risks and operational shifts. According to an OP survey, nearly one in three large companies with a turnover exceeding 200 million euros has seen an increase in payment and invoice fraud over the past year.

Generative AI has made phishing attempts more sophisticated by eliminating common indicators like grammatical errors. Data from cybersecurity firm Deepstrike indicates that phishing attacks rose by 1,265 percent last year due to the spread of generative AI. Experts suggest that companies must strengthen both technical defenses and employee training to combat these evolving threats.

In the realm of human resources, AI is also being integrated into payroll processes. While the rule-based nature of payroll makes it an ideal candidate for automation, the complexity of Finnish labor laws and collective agreements requires cautious implementation. Experts suggest that while AI may automate precision-based tasks, the role of payroll professionals is likely to shift toward consultative expertise and algorithm management.
