AI improves clinical accuracy and saves lives in US hospitals, industry leaders say

Philips North America CEO Jeff DiLullo said artificial intelligence is raising diagnostic accuracy, streamlining workflows and enabling clinicians to see about five more patients each week, an effect with clear economic implications for health systems. A Philips-sponsored Future Health Index survey of clinicians in ten countries found that 30 % reported budget savings from AI, 27 % said the technology helped spot possible medical errors, and 36 % noted an increase in patient volume, though 77 % said AI training remains limited.

At Tampa General Hospital in Florida, the Palantir‑built "Sepsis Hub" AI system has reportedly saved nearly 900 lives over four years by detecting sepsis early, halving related deaths and cutting patients' length of stay by 30 %. Similar AI models, such as UCSD’s COMPOSER, have shown a 17 % drop in sepsis mortality in other U.S. emergency departments. Despite these benefits, broader adoption is slow due to cost, data‑privacy concerns, alert fatigue and integration challenges.
