Global AI adoption faces economic gaps and rising security risks

The global landscape of artificial intelligence is characterized by rapid integration, significant economic disparities, and emerging risks. In Albania, Minister Delina Ibrahimaj noted that only 1.8% of enterprises use AI, despite the technology's potential to boost productivity. Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced plans to make AI mandatory for public administration and launch pilot projects in healthcare and agriculture.

In the financial sector, institutions face new challenges. Abancord President Cristina de Castro emphasized that AI is already influencing organizational decisions, requiring robust governance to manage risks. Meanwhile, a global study highlights concerns regarding 'agentic AI,' with 84% of experts identifying AI agents as a potential vulnerability for banks due to their ability to automate sophisticated fraud.

Educational sectors are also adapting. In North Macedonia, new guidelines allow AI as a teaching tool while focusing on preventing plagiarism. Conversely, New York City has banned generative AI for students up to eighth grade to prioritize human connection. In Spain, regional authorities are implementing regulations to guide responsible use in classrooms.

Economically, adoption rates vary widely. Only 8% of Mexican companies utilize AI, compared to much higher rates in South Korea and the Netherlands. Furthermore, AI startups face hurdles in converting pilot projects into stable recurring revenue, as less than half of current pilots reach full production.
