AI infrastructure demands rise as Swedish firms expand technology investments
A report from Digital Realty indicates that Swedish companies are heavily investing in AI, with 85 percent having already implemented or planning AI initiatives within the next year. However, a lack of specialized infrastructure remains a significant hurdle. Globally, the percentage of IT decision-makers citing infrastructure shortages as a primary obstacle has risen to 40 percent, up from 9 percent in 2024.
In Sweden, 92 percent of respondents link their data placement decisions to their AI strategies, emphasizing a need for sovereign AI and strict data governance. To support large-scale AI, data centers must meet increasing demands for power supply, cooling, and connectivity.
In Hultsfred, Sweden, Magnora Data Center AB has signed a letter of intent with the municipality to establish a 12,000 square meter data center for AI operations at the Nyhagen industrial area. The multi-billion SEK investment is expected to create 40 to 60 full-time jobs once operational, with 200 to 400 jobs during the estimated two-and-a-half-year construction period. While the project offers potential for utilizing local solar power and waste heat, some local residents have expressed concerns following news of similar developments elsewhere.
