AI initiatives in Italy focus on inclusive health care and cooperative welfare

On 14 July, the European Parliament will host a session in Brussels titled “Artificial Intelligence for Accessibility: From Innovation to European Standard”. The event will bring together EU institutions, scientists and health experts, including Professor Salvatore Corrao of the University of Palermo, who will discuss how AI can support clinical pathways and chronic‑care management while keeping the doctor’s judgement central.

In Italy, Legacoop Bologna together with the Fondazione del Monte and Fondazione PICO have launched Acoda, a cooperative network that aims to turn data and artificial intelligence into a common digital good. Acoda promotes a “social AI” model based on shared, ethically governed data to improve welfare, health services, energy, environment and other public‑interest sectors, seeking to reduce information inequalities and strengthen democratic economic participation.
