AI integration adds measurable value to software engineering projects

A project led by ALIANDO introduced generative artificial intelligence into the software development lifecycle for a Latin American financial institution. The AI was applied to three core areas – coding, documentation and testing – across diverse environments, from Java applications to SAP ABAP and SAP Fiori platforms.

The technology enabled code explanations, function suggestions, automated test generation and documentation drafting. However, the study highlighted that AI benefits materialise only when combined with technical context, team expertise, human validation and clear metrics. Early trials showed that a generic AI assistant could deliver impressive demos but struggled in real enterprise settings, especially within SAP where transport steps and platform‑specific configurations added complexity. Successful adoption required iterative testing, customization and alignment with the organization’s security and deployment processes.
